Doodle odysseyDoodling, drawing & sketching is an important process for me. I feel happy when I create.
I've been drawing ever since I can remember. At the age of 8, my mom sent me to art class. This was in Tehran. My first assignment was to draw a landscape using a picture from a magazine as reference. I was pretty good. I don't have the original sketch to prove it unfortunately. You'll just have to take my word for it. It was all for fun at the beginning. But that changed after watching this video: The rest is history.
Me, myself & Tim Burton. I first took notice of Tim Burton after watching "Nightmare before Christmas". But when "Edward Scissorhands" premiered, It got my full attention. But what captives me more about the auteur are his drawings and illustrations. Distinctive, bold and honest. To me, that is truly his essence. I've had the privileged to attend his exhibition at the Museum of Modern Art in New York City. Words fail me. Additional reading on his work here. |
Fine arts
I'm actually a trained fine artist. Had my art education at UiTM, Faculty of Art & Design in Manjung and Seri Iskandar, Perak.
Never really thought I'd enrol myself into an art school. I was utterly clueless. But the urge to create art was strong, so I decided to attend art class conducted by Raja Azhar Idris, an established artist known for his glass painting who also runs the Artcase gallery in what was then in Ampang Park.
He was inspiring. Self taught, he earned living by selling his art in the streets of Central Market, saving up enough money to study painting in Australia and made a name for himself. It was during my mentorship with Raja, I got to meet incredible Malaysian artists such as Yusof Ghani, Latiff Mohidin and most notably , Ibrahim Hussein.
Meeting Ibrahim Hussein was the turning point for me. I was really into his style of art. Apparently he and Andy Warhol were good friends back in the days. I guess in a way, that influenced me to enrol in UiTM. And that's how i got into fine arts.
